Biology is the study of living organisms and their interactions with each other and their environment. All living things share certain characteristics:

  • Cellular organization: All living things are made up of one or more cells.
  • Metabolism: The chemical processes that occur within a living organism to maintain life.
  • Homeostasis: The ability to maintain a stable internal environment.
  • Growth and development: Organisms increase in size and complexity over time.
  • Reproduction: The process of creating new organisms.
  • Response to stimuli: Living things can react to changes in their environment.
  • Adaptation: Organisms can change over time to better suit their environment.
